Taos Charter School Goes Modular
The Taos Charter School needed attractive, permanent facility space—quickly
and on budget. Modular construction was the ideal solution.
Once the project was under way construction was substantially complete
in just over seven months. The large size of each building and
the land donor’s architectural covenants led the design team
to incorporate buttresses and stepped parapet walls to provide
relief. The buildings are set on a concrete foundation and feature
natural lighting throughout due to multiple skylights.
The three buildings provide Taos Charter School with approximately
19,000 square feet of facility space and a variety of teaching/learning
areas, including: classrooms, a science lab, a music/art/lunch
area, a library and storage areas. Administrative areas include
a reception area, offices and a nurse’s office.
The project is the result of a unique partnership between the Friends
of Taos Charter School, the Taos Municipal School Board and Staff,
New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority staff, Cooperative
Education Services, numerous regulatory agencies, contractors,
a land donor, Governor Bill Richardson and many others.
Comark Wins St. Bernard Parish Deal
Comark Building Systems, Inc. has been contracted by St. Bernard
Parish School District to provide over 20,000 square feet of facility
space to support their preschool operations. The three 7,392 square
foot buildings will be placed on the Andrew Jackson High School
campus and the turnkey project will feature a parapet wall and
stucco-like exterior. The project is scheduled to be complete in
June, 2006. St. Bernard Parish was one of the hardest hit areas
by Hurricane Katrina, and Comark is proud to partner with the Parish
and provide them with safe, clean and attractive facility space
on a tight timeframe.
